We read a story about offering helpful suggestions the other day that made us chuckle, so we wanted to pass it along…
“As a department head stationed on a Navy vessel, I was concerned about one of my senior enlisted men. He was a superb technician, but he had a problem taking orders. One day, I took him aside and suggested that he try something that had worked for me. ‘Whenever an officer gives you a directive that you think is stupid, just say, ‘Yes, sir.’ But in your mind, you’re free to think, ‘You’re an idiot!’ Will this work for you”? The young man simply smiled at me and replied, “Yes, sir!”
Here’s the way we see it: It takes a great man to give sound advice tactfully, but a greater to accept it graciously.
