When we talk about our paperNpixels program, we’re really talking about merging the digital and analog worlds of business. Whether you are a small, medium, or large company, YOU need to because YOUR CUSTOMERS do!
Today, we are going to tackle offline networking, and give you some ideas on how you can RATE your effectiveness by evaluating your Resources, Audiences, Tools, and Engagement.
Networking is a powerful way to meet new people and create new business relationships. Don’t know where to start? That’s okay! There are plenty of resources available that can direct you to a great networking event, and they’re right at your fingertips.
Event websites, like Eventbrite, are stellar resources when you are looking for networking opportunities. You can freely browse events by location, date, and price, giving you the flexibility to determine how to invest your time and money for the greatest return.
Mailing lists are another free resource that can direct you to upcoming opportunities. Want a curated list of events delivered right to your inbox? Find an organization you trust that promotes local events and sign up for their mailing list! This will save you from sifting through the endless listings available online. If you are in the Boston/Cambridge area, we recommend Mass Innovation Nights as a reliable starting point that includes weekly event listings in their newsletter.

Ok, you’ve found a ton of networking opportunities. Congratulations! Now, how do you choose which ones to go to? Start by picking out topics that you are familiar and knowledgeable with. Being comfortable with your ability to take part in conversations is a big plus and being around like-minded people will give you common ground for engagement.
Don’t forget, though: While familiarity is a good starting point, it isn’t the only option! Don’t be afraid to stretch your comfort zone. Picking out topics that you want to know more about will give you the opportunity to increase your knowledge base. Likewise, by occasionally attending events outside of your normal routine, you will meet people and organizations you wouldn’t otherwise meet.
