Lessons from Sesame Street and Jeff Pulver’s 140 Character Conference

#140conf Boston; Lessons from Sesame Street, and Marshall McLuhan (who)?

I presented at Jeff Pulver’s 140 character conference, where experts in a variety of different fields reported on the incredible and positive changes wrought by the real time web.

My session was officially titled “Marketing lessons from sesame street; corporate bored room no more and how old school businesses can reinvigorate while they abbreviate McLuhan.”
I spoke as the Director of Marketing at Kendall Press and there are few trades that are older than commercial printing. Gutenburg’s first press went into use in 1450 and we still use paper and ink even today.

BUT, THE STATE OF NOW & THE REAL TIME WEB has really shaken up our industry and imparted lessons that tie into a whole cast of characters of which I noted three in particular:

1. Gutenburg – invented the first printing press in 1450 and changed communication

2. Marshall Mcluhan- Born 1911; Canadian
Schooled in the OTHER CAMBRIDGE
Wrote two books of note; THE MECHANICAL BRIDE & THE GUTENBURG GALAXY (that Gutenburg guy again)
Known for the these incredible maxims THE MEDIUM IS THE MESSAGE; GLOBAL VILLAGE and SURFING for information (30 years before the internet)

3.Sesame street; conceived by Joan Ganz Cooney Premiered in 1969
Her mission was to Create childrens tv ”that would master the addictive qualities of TV while doing something good” (kinda like the current challenge inandroids and iphones?)

SHE MET Jim Henson at an education meeting where? Our Boston where else? and Sesame Street used video, sports, music to enhance learning and school readiness.

TODAY’S REAL TIME WEB ENHANCES LEARNING & BUSINESS & RELATIONSHIP READINESS. Repeat; enhances business and relationship READINESS.

This is where I sing the Ninja Sesame Street theme song with some help from my newest friends amazingly pulled together in real time- @AmandaPalmer, @JeffPulver, @JoselinMane and @AndyDixn Anybody else try to get tix to Amanda Palmer’s sold out Broadway in Boston production of “Cabaret”? Or just be able to sit and talk to her?

ANYBODY WANT TO GUESS # OF CHARACTERS making up the stanza??? LESS THAN 140.
